Calligraphy For Beginners Course - Uncial Script
Dates: 2.3.24 to 6.4.24
Saturdays 10am – 12pm (NO CLASS on Saturday 23.3.24)

This 5 week course in Uncial Calligraphy is for beginner students and those wishing to learn another script.
Uncials are a capital letterform, wide and round, written at a natural pen angle of 25% – 30%.
In each class I take you through a step-by-step process of the construction of letterforms and how to draw a small Celtic knot. To complete a short piece of decorated calligraphy
Materials list for students:
- 2B mechanical/pacer pencil
- Ruler, 30cm or longer
- Eraser
- Empty jar, for rinse water
- Rag, soft & absorbent like t-shirt fabric
- To bring for calligraphy project: Colour media, what you have or prefer to use: colour pencils; pigment markers; paints – water colours or watercolour gouache, acrylics.
- NB: include small fine pointed brush, mixing brush & palette with paints.
Beginners Calligraphy Kit
- A3 Bond Layout Pad 45-50gsm (slightly transparent for guidelines sheet to show through)
- 1 x Speedball pen handle (or equivalent)
- Speedball chisel edge nibs – sizes C-1, C-2, C-3
- 30-40ml Sumi/Derivan pigment black ink (or decant into small 30ml jar for dipping nibs)
