CELTIC ART – LAYERING KNOTS & STEP PATTERNS

This course includes lattice knots & step patterns, 2 of the 5 styles of patterns that make up this decorative artform that has been used and created for millennia.
Celtic Lattice knots are an essential element of design you need to begin creating your own Celtic Art.
Step patterns are most famously seen in ancient manuscripts such as The Book of Kells & The Lindisfarne Gospels.
I will take you step-by-step through the techniques of drawing these patterns using a simple proven method that will have you creating authentic Celtic artworks. To complete your artworks we will explore various ways of using colour with your favourite media.
This course is suitable for beginners to intermediate.
Materials list for students:
  • 2B mechanical/pacer pencil
  • Ruler, 30cm or longer
  • Eraser
  • Compass
  • Protractor
  • Empty jar, for rinse water
  • Rag, soft & absorbent like t-shirt fabric
  • Colour media, what you have or prefer to use: colour pencils; pigment markers;
  • Paints – water colours or watercolour gouache, acrylics & fine pointed brushes
